12.16.22 - Introducing Friday Mixtape + Argentina in the WC finals! Top TEN for the week & notes on culture, tech, work, and play.
Argentina in the World Cup finals. Oh yes! I have been chanting and rooting for my team since I was five in Spain 1982. Our family and friends are delighted and filled with expectation: would this become our third World Cup with the best player the world has ever known? #Messi10
It has been an incredible World Cup filled with many surprises, joys, remarkable athleticism, and passion from fans worldwide. Qatar 2022 is also an opportunity for inclusion and to unite in peace, love, unity, and respect. Not for the game, but for our love of humanity.
*The mixtape has its origins in the 1980's as a compilation of music, typically from multiple sources, recorded onto a medium. Essayist Geoffrey O'Brien described the mixtape as "perhaps the most widely practiced American art form". In hip-hop culture, a mixtape is often a self-produced or independently released album that is free of charge. Replace “music” with multiple sources and you get MIXTAPE Fridays, my version of the best of the week. Let me know what you think ;)

Every Friday (maybe Saturday) I email a mixtape along with a cocktail of articles, quotes, essays, videos, screenshots, and podcasts that I find notably good for you and shareable.
There was nothing that Peter Paul Rubens couldn’t do. He was a pacifist besides his violent and often bloody paintings. The 19th-century French critic and historian Hippolyte Taine said of him that “the whole of human nature is in his grasp, save the loftiest heights. Hence it is that his creativeness is the vastest we have seen.”
2023 social media predictions from Jack Appleby of Marketing Brew.
Although the credibility of cryptocurrency and the exchanges are possibly at their worst time since 2013, what will happen when the last Bitcoin is created in 2140? Bitcoin mining is the computational process by which bitcoins are created. So far, a little over 19 million bitcoins are in existence. No more new Bitcoins will be created once all 21 million have been mined.
How we write now. Is the Internet changing language?
The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts just closed its last exhibit titled, Shape Shifting: 35 Years of Late Modernist Prints, where I collaborated by selling 8 artworks made by Puerto Rican and Brazilian artists, which now form part of the permanent collection.
The 'Backup Ukraine' is a digital project to save Ukraine’s architectural and cultural heritage that is being destroyed. While Ukrainians are fighting for survival, many are working to physically save antiquities and monuments, where possible. But many have already been or will be, lost, and some are immovable, leaving them vulnerable to destruction. All civilians are invited to digitally preserve their nation using an iPhone or iPad to completely capture objects or even rooms in 3D, to recreate full renderings of architecture, statues, and monuments. Watch the case study.
What’s a mixtape without a good playlist? I’ll let you make your own this time. These are Vulture best 10 songs of 2022. And yes, you bet Bad Bunny is on that list.
AI is showing up everywhere. And it is no longer a novelty, but something that’s starting to look scary. Here is an AI Business Name Generator if you can’t find a name for the project you want to launch.
The Creative Habit - Learn It and Use It for Life by Twyla Tharp. Creativity is not a yes or no, either you have it or don’t skill. We are all creative and learning about it helps us understand how to use our superpowers for the best results. I read this book years ago and really enjoyed it. Tharp tells some great stories and emphasizes that the true root of creativity is commitment and hard work.
The year is ending and perhaps some of you are still thinking about charity donations. Consider Grassroots Soccer is an adolescent health organization that leverages the power of soccer to equip young people with the life-saving information, services, and mentorship they need to live healthier lives.
